West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, expressed her bewilderment over the recent emphasis on using "Bharat" instead of "India" in official communication. This came in response to the controversy surrounding a G20 dinner invitation that referred to the 'President of Bharat'. Banerjee questioned the need for such a shift, pointing out that while the Indian Constitution is referred to as 'Bharat ka Samvidhan' in Hindi, the world knows the country as India. She suggested there was no new development warranting this change and criticized what she saw as a rewriting of history in the country.
Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) joined the criticism regarding the G20 dinner invite that mentioned 'Bharat' instead of 'India.' TMC's ally, the Congress party, also voiced concerns, accusing the government of being "scared" of the INDIA bloc and diverting attention from pressing issues like inflation and unemployment.
Additionally, Mamata Banerjee accused Governor CV Ananda Bose of holding back bills passed by the state assembly. This comment came amid a backdrop of political tensions between the West Bengal government and the governor's office.
